Company History

Our history spans a heritage of over 50 years in both leisure and business travel, with the Business Travel Direct brand itself being formed in 1995.

In 2005 the business moved headquarters to facilitate the growth of the company infrastructure and give us the platform to develop our travel technology and online booking tools.

In 2013, we moved into the marine/maritime travel arena and launched our dedicated marine department to cater for the growth of maritime clients. Our team of experienced client partnership managers oversee the development of our marine department and since its inception, Marine Travel Direct has seen exceptional growth and client satisfaction.

In 2015 we cemented our long-term relationship with SAP Concur when they appointed us as one of four Preferred Partners in the UK and the only business travel company to be TMC Certified; an achievement we are very proud of as it has established us as innovative technology pioneers within the travel management sector. Since then we’ve developed this relationship further by becoming the first Travel Management Company in the UK and Europe to adopt SAP Concur’s toolbox of technology that enables us to offer our clients a seamless travel solution and duty of care fulfilment. Today, we are one of just two of Concur’s Preferred TMC Partners.

2017 was a year of big change with our HQ offices moving to our current building in Langley, Berkshire. Business Travel Direct continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions. After previously acquiring both Keith Bailey Travel and Amity World Travel, 2017 saw us acquire Brighton-based Uniglobe Preferred Travel, taking the total company turnover of Business Travel Direct to in excess of £100 million – one of the leading TMCs in the UK  – and expanding our UK office locations to five.

In 2018, Business Travel Direct was named the Best TMC (£50 – 200 million) at the prestigious Business Travel Awards; the culmination of all our work over the previous years had paid off as we established ourselves as a top 20 TMC in the UK. 

Our focus on technology and innovation continued as we cemented new partnerships with rate-auditing solutions, providing powerful tools to ensure clients got the best airfares and hotel rates, even after booking. Our reporting capabilities continued to strengthen with our predictive analytics tool accurately demonstrating where clients could save money. Plus, our latest in-house technology development BizzyPortal provided our very own single sign-on portal to access your most used tools and sites in one, simple-to-use place.

Following continued growth, in July 2019, Business Travel Direct joined the Reed and Mackay Group. With closely aligned values, a similar entrepreneurial spirit, and a focus on innovation and excellent client-service, joining the Reed & Mackay Group established Business Travel Direct’s position as part of a truly global Travel Management Company.
