October’s Monthly News
October has been an exciting month for Business Travel Direct, as we’ve implemented new technology for our clients; raised more money for our chosen charity, The Outward Bound Trust; and had the opportunity to visit the sponsored school in Ullswater as they took part in their challenging expedition.
We mentioned in September’s blog, five members of staff from our Head Office and Regional Office took part in the Oxford Vitality Half Marathon to raise money for The Outward Bound Trust. Vanessa, Monika, Tracey, Charlotte and Vicki had been training hard for the three months ahead of the event, and on 11th October ran their 13.1 miles, raising over £1,200 to send 10 students from Dormers Wells High School on a 5 day expedition. It was a fantastic effort, and a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Bizzy Runners on their challenge.
Towards the end of October, Hannan Rahal, a member of our Finance department, walked an astonishing 17 miles from Uxbridge to Westminster in aid of fundraising for The Outward Bound Trust, taking 49,908 steps and raising over £600. The walk took 5 and a half hours and in spite of the rain, Hannan ended up at Big Ben just before midnight.
The fundraising events that have taken place over the last 12 months have all been to support The Outward Bound Trust on their mission to challenge young people all over the world to step out of their comfort zone and improve their confidence. On 25th October, Dormers Wells High School sent 10 Year 8 pupils to the Ullswater centre, where they spent 5 days rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, partaking in conservation work, hiking and camping. Business Travel Direct’s Director of Client Partnerships, Vanessa Bailey, and Marketing Executive, Hayley Reader, were invited to the centre in the Lake District on the last day of the students’ expedition to partake in their final presentation and watch them receive their awards. It was an incredible experience to see how their confidence had grown over the past week after taking part in various challenges and we thoroughly hope they valued the experience and take some of what they’ve learnt into their academic career. The last piece of exciting news we have to share is that Business Travel Direct is a Finalist for ‘Best Travel Management Company’ at the Business Travel Awards 2016 in our category. This year in particular we’ve strived to ensure our service offering and technology are as robust and relevant as possible, and the last 12 months have been spent implementing new tools and processes that guarantee we’ll meet the future needs of our clients. We’re so pleased to have this hard work recognised and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has played a role in our development over this past year, and our clients for their trust and loyalty.
