British Airways has completed the much-anticipated installation of 72 automated bag-drops at Heathrow Airport in an effort to reduce queueing time for passengers. These machines enable travellers to process and tag their own luggage and so far, have been used by 3.5 million BA customers, with positive reviews all-round.

According to BA, their aim by ‘removing the desk’ between the agent and the traveller, they’re able to offer a more personalised service, as there are agents standing near the machines ready to assist wherever needed.

The introduction of automation is something we’re starting to see a lot more of in our airports and the U.K. is making quick strides to streamline many of it’s manual, human-facing processes in efforts to create a smoother journey for passengers.
