Flybe News

Flybe have added a brand new service between London City and Dusseldorf. Flying four times a week, the new route gives business travellers a direct service between the cities in under an hour and half.

Flybe and Avios have recently announced a new partnership that will enable travellers to part pay for their flights using their accrued Avios points. Flybe passengers have been able to collect Avios for two years, and now they can offset the cost of a flight with as few as 1,500 Avios (equating to £7.50 off) and up to 4,500 Avios (equating to £22.50) off the price of a one way flight. Passengers will still collect Avios on their flight pre-discount.

Heathrow Expansion – What happens next?

The government has finally given the green light for Heathrow to build a third runway but there is still a long way to go before it becomes a reality. Here are the next steps in the process according to the government’s own timetable:

  • Early 2017: Government will publish a draft National Policy Statement, setting out its policy for developing a new Heathrow runway by 2030, which will be followed by a 16 week consultation period.
  • Spring 2017-summer 2017: Select committees in parliament will have the opportunity to scrutinise the draft policy statement.
  • Summer 2017-autumn 2017: Government will analyse responses from the public consultation and select committees before finalising.
  • Late 2017-early 2018: Final NPS will be debated in parliament followed by a formal vote.
  • 2018-2021/22: Once approved, Heathrow can start the process of applying for planning permission for the third runway, including consultation with local communities.
  • 2025 onwards: Third runway comes into operation if planning permission is secured and construction process runs in line with current timetable.
